A thin bath mat does not absorb anything. It pushes the water sideways until there is a cold wet ring around it, and by the time the second person showers it is soaked through. You end up hanging it over the tub every morning, or mopping the floor with a towel.

This one takes the water in instead of spreading it around. The deep pile pulls the drips down and holds them, so the surface you step on stays walkable and the tile around it stays dry.
